Support the Wild Bird Fund
The dedicated staff and volunteers of the Wild Bird Fund are led by Rita McMahon and Karen Heidgerd. Rita is a television consultant who volunteers her time to help save local birds while Karen is the Practice Manager at Animal General. Both are licensed to rehabilitate wilds birds by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and have a Federal Migratory Bird Permit License issued by the Department of the Interior. They have the full support of the veterinarians on staff of Animal General as well as the full use of all medical facilities. Click here to visit the Wild Bird Fund Web site or to make a donation.

Animal General donates all costs for the medical services and the Wild Bird Fund depends on donations to provide food and medicine for the birds while they recuperate. Caring members of the community provide additional foster care, donations, and chauffeuring services for patients to other rehab centers.
Because they are staffed by volunteers rehabilitators at Animal General can see wild bird cases by appointment only Monday through Saturday, from 1pm to 3pm. Please call 646-306-2862 to make an appointment. You are also encouraged to contact them if you have an interest in fostering wildlife in need.
For treatment of exotic birds and small mammals, please visit our Center for Avian and Exotic Medicine on Columbus between 87th and 88th Streets.
